Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
